Premature graying of hair, Reasons, Can it be prevented?

KABUL (SW) – A number of Kabul residents say that premature graying of hair has increased among young people. According to them, today’s life and the high level of competition among people have caused an increase in mental pressures on young people, and the low quality of the food has also caused premature aging and premature graying of hair among young people.

One of the residents of Kabul says: “I am 80 years old, as long as I remember, in our time, young people’s hair did not turn gray, but in the current situation this is a big problem. Maybe it is because of the problems that young people are faced with.”

Salam Watandar has interviewed 12 people, among whom eight of them consider heredity and the other four consider mental disorders as the reasons for their graying hair.

15-year-old Zaeem says that he inherited his graying hair from his grandfather. “Since I was seven years old, I noticed that my hair is turning gray, and its reason is the inheritance that was passed on to me from my grandfather, and it is not due to sadness or anxiety” he added.

Kabul residents say that mental disorders and anxiety have caused their hair to turn white at a young age while none of their family members had faced it before.

They add doctors have also confirmed that mental disorders have caused their hair to turn white.

20-year-old Efat, another resident of Kabul, also says: “I noticed from the age of 12 that my hair is turning white day by day, and there is no one in my family who has gray hair. Heredity had no role. It is because of mental and psychological problems and excessive stress. Doctors advised me to stay away from mental pressures and stress.”

The rate of premature aging among young people has not been investigated yet, and thus, they cannot estimate how much this phenomenon exists among young people, according to psychologists and specialists in skin and beauty.

They add that hair graying before the age of 20 is an unnatural phenomenon and has no treatment, but by taking vitamins and proteins, its increase can be prevented.

“Hair graying in people under 20 years old is unnatural, and the main reason is heredity, which children inherit from their parents, but if heredity has no role in hair graying, the next factor is mental problems, anxiety and deficiency of some vitamins. The hair that turns gray does not return to its original state, but it can be prevented from becoming grayer by taking some foods, vitamins and proteins”, said Mohammad-Qasem Jalal, skin and beauty specialist.

Similarly, Sayed-Esmat Hashemi, a psychologist in Kabul, says that anxiety and mental disorders are the main reason for premature graying of hair.

He adds: “The main reason for hair loss or gray hair among young people is that the activity of the testosterone hormone in the body decreases and causes the hair to slowly lose its main activity. It has different psychological reasons, the first is excessive stress and anxiety, and people who worry about every issue, cause gray hair and even cause depression among young people.”

However, the officials in the Ministry of Public Health say that no specific case of this disease has been registered in the ministry so far.

It should be mentioned that unhealthy nutrition, neglecting the quantity and quality of sleep, environmental pollution, the use of low-quality cosmetics, mental pressure and heredity are the most important factors involved in premature graying of hair among young people.
