Over $835,000 worth medical equipment provided to health centers in Helmand

KABUL (SW) – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has provided medical and non-medical equipment to health centers in Helmand at the expense of over 835$ thousand. This assistance is made possible with the financial support of the Asian Development Bank and the cooperation of the Institute of Health Administration and Development (OHPM).

According to officials, the equipment includes six repaired ambulances, 79 motorcycles, 224 medical cabinets and chairs, a solar power system for 19 medical centers, computers for 18 medical centers, and other things.

Mohammad Zakir Enwa, head of the provincial office of UNICEF in Helmand, says that with this assistance, standard health services will be provided to the people in 2024.

He adds: “The value of this project is 835 thousand US dollars and it will be provided to those health centers that need it more. We intend to have standard health services by implementing this project in the current health centers of Helmand.”

Local officials in Helmand express optimism that the donated medical and non-medical equipment will address health challenges in remote areas of the province. They call on relevant institutions for increased cooperation to further enhance healthcare services.

Abdul Rahman Kundzi, the governor of Helmand, says: “People in the remote districts of Helmand do not have access to basic health services and their patients do not reach health centers on time. With this medical and non-medical equipment, a large part of the problems of the people of those districts will be solved.”

“We ask the respected UNICEF official who is present here to help us in the field of health; because we have finished the work related to the ministry. These should improve our clinics,” said Sayed-Ahmed Saeed, head of the public health department in Helmand.

It should be mentioned that numerous residents in the remote areas of Helmand continue to face challenges in accessing essential health services.
