Do not leave us alone, contractors request exiting foreign troops

HERAT CITY (SW) – A number of Afghan contractors who have been working with foreign forces at the Irina camp in Herat province on Wednesday expressed concerns over their security amid withdrawal of foreign troops.

At a protest rally in front of the Herat office of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission building, they said with the withdrawal of foreign forces, their lives are in danger.

Jalil Ahmad Ahmadzai, a contractor at the camp, criticized the foreign forces, saying that although they had been cooperating with them for two decades, they had not paid the slightest attention to their demands while leaving the country.

Elias Rahimi, another contractor at the camp, said that although the Taliban had promised security to those who had worked with foreign forces, but past experiences, he said, has shown that the group has not kept its promises.

Wahid Kakar, the contractors’ representative, said that over the past 20 years, they have provided most of the services, especially camp construction services, transportation and procurement to foreign forces, but with their departure from Afghanistan, their living conditions have become more difficult.

According to him, three years ago, the Taliban beheaded a contractor in Guzara district for transporting two sandbags to a foreign forces camp.
