Departure of peace negotiators for Doha not final yet

KABUL (SW) – Fears were raised on Sunday about delay in the scheduled departure of the government’s team for Doha for the intra-Afghan negotiations.

Habiba Sarabi, a member of the Afghan government’s peace delegation, told Salam Watandar that it was not yet clear whether the delegation would travel to Doha, Qatar, on Monday to begin the second round of peace talks with the Taliban. She said the delegation might not travel to Qatar as per schedule on Monday.

According to Habiba Sarabi, the delegation would hold a meeting with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani before leaving for Doha.

Meanwhile, the Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem told Salam Watandar that their delegation was ready in Qatar and that they were fully prepared to start the second round of peace talks on as per schedule on Tuesday, January 5.

A day earlier, Hafiz Mansoor, a member of the Afghan government’s peace negotiating team, told a moot that he would leave for Doha on Monday to begin a second round of talks with the Taliban. Another member of the delegation, Ghulam Farooq Majrooh, said a ceasefire and political engagement with the Taliban were among other major issues at the agenda.
