Patients raise concern due to lack of specialist personnel in Badakhshan Provincial Hospital

FAIZABAD CITY (SW) – Residents of Faizabad, the center of Badakhshan, have raised concerns about the inadequate staffing levels and the specialist personnel in the emergency department of the Provincial Hospital.

Residents of Faizabad and Patients at Provincial Hospital demand the officials to make an effort and resolve the issue.

Aryan Azar, a resident of Faizabad city, highlighted that there are only a few nurses in the emergency department, “most of whom are there for practical training.”

Abdul-Rahman, who brought a patient to the hospital, shared his experience, stating, “I arrived at 9:00 a.m., and now it is 11:00 a.m. My situation is not cleared yet. They tell me to come back after two hours, and when I return, they ask me to return at two o’clock. That is the problem.”

Officials at the Provincial Hospital of Badakhshan have responded to recent complaints from residents about prolonged waiting times and inadequate medical attention. Despite patient claims of staffing shortages, hospital authorities assert that patients are being treated to the best of their ability. They add that the facility is equipped with 120 beds.

In an interview with Salam Watandar, Shafiqullah Hamdard, the Head of Badakhshan Provincial Hospital shared that efforts are underway to increase the number of beds in the hospital, with plans for completion soon. This development aims to improve patient accommodation and enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide essential healthcare services.

“There are many clients. We have 1,200 to 1,300 outpatients, and admit about 80 to 90 patients in bed per day; Most of the time, the hospital cannot accept the patients. We have 120 beds, sometimes we have up to 250 inpatients; there are two to three patients in each bed, especially in pediatrics, surgery, gynecology-obstetrics departments.”

Badakhshan Public Health Department officials are actively working to address challenges at the provincial hospital, according to Mahfooz Sultani, the head of forensic medicine.

Despite the presence of CSA and BSA hospitals in two districts, patients continue to visit the provincial hospital, Sultani added. “Patients in the hospital are divided into several sections. Emergency patients, most of whom are in bad condition, need to be seen by the doctor.”
