Kabul hosts joyous group wedding for 50 young couples

KABUL (SW) – Seelab Charitable Foundation organized a group wedding for 50 young couples on Monday, in Kabul.

The officials of the foundation state that the purpose for holding the group wedding is to prevent unpleasant cultures and the institutionalization of low-cost weddings.

Seyed Ahmad Silab, the head of the foundation, says that 500 couples were registered in this program, of which 50 couples were found to be eligible in this wedding ceremony.

He adds: “The conditions are that they should not be addicted to drugs, not having mental problems, should not be unemployed, earning 300 to 500 Afghanis, they should not be in debt.”

The officials of the Seelab Charity Foundation say that holding this wedding ceremony has cost six million Afghanis.

Hekmatullah, a resident of Sarubi district of Kabul and one of the grooms, says that he has been waiting for three years to hold his wedding party, but due to the excessive expense, he could not hold his wedding ceremony.

Ramin, a resident of Kabul, says that it has been almost five years since he was unable to hold his wedding ceremony due to the long wind.

“We are happy for holding this ceremony. I ask the families that they should avoid excessive expenses, it is not useful and it is better to be less; so their daughter will be happy.”

It should be mentioned that the first group wedding was held in Mazar-e-Sharif city in 2007 with the support of religious scholars, and after that, it continued in other provinces.
