Iran condemns Herat attack, offers cooperation with IE against terrorism

HERAT CITY (SW) – The Iranian Embassy in Kabul has condemned the armed attack targeting worshippers in Herat province on Monday night, expressing readiness to enhance cooperation with the de-facto government of the Islamic Emirate to combat terrorism.

Six individuals were killed, and one was injured as a result of the armed attack by an unidentified gunman at the Imam Zaman Mosque in Guzara district of Herat.

The embassy stated in its official X account, “The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, while condemning the terrorist incident at the Imam Zamam Mosque in Guzara District of Herat Province, which resulted in injuries and deaths of worshippers, calls for the identification and punishment of the perpetrators of this crime and declares its readiness to strengthen cooperation with the caretaker government of Afghanistan to combat terrorism.”

Abdul Matin Qane, spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior Affairs of the Islamic Emirate, stated that the incident occurred around 9:00 P.M. -local time- on Monday in the “Shahrak” area of Guzara District.

He wrote: “Unfortunately, at 9:00 PM last night in Herat Province, in the Shahrak area of Guzara District, an unidentified armed individual opened fire on worshippers in a mosque using Avtomat Kalashnikova, resulting in the martyrdom of six local individuals and the injury of one civilian.”

Qane, however, said that more details would be shared with the media later.

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has also condemned last night’s attack on Imam Zaman mosque in Herat.

Responsibility for this armed attack has not yet been claimed by any individual or group.

It is worth noting that similar incidents have occurred in Herat before, and the responsibility for most of them has been claimed by the ISIS group.
