Iran initiates practical steps in border closure plan with Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – An Iranian army commander stated that the practical implementation of the borders closure plan between Iran and Afghanistan has commenced and is expected to be completed within three years.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Hassan Mukfi, the Iranian army commander, stated that four engineering groups have been deployed to implement the border closure plan with Afghanistan.

“Four engineering groups from the Ground Forces of the Iranian army have been deployed to implement the border closure plan, specifically focusing on the eastern borders. According to the Minister of Interior, an allocation of three billion dollars has been earmarked for the implementation of the eastern border closure plan (Afghanistan border),” he said.

Meanwhile, Hamdullah Fetrat, the deputy spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, says the plan for closure of Iran and Afghanistan borders is implemented in cooperation with the Islamic Emirate.

“Every country has the right to take measures to enhance security, and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s actions aim to prevent violations and smuggling while strengthening these border areas. These efforts are being conducted in coordination with the Islamic Emirate,” he affirmed.

Moqadam Amin, expert in political affairs, believes that aligning the border closure plan with the de-facto government will foster the expansion of relations between the two countries.

“The security measures and barriers should be established with the participation of neighboring countries, which will promote good relations between the two nations,” he added.

Iran has repeatedly expressed concerns about illegal migration and drug trafficking into the country through its border with Afghanistan.
