Ways sought to life economy of the southeastern zone

PUL-E-ALAM (SW) – A meeting labelled as “Investment, Opportunities and Challenges of the Southeast Zone” was held on Thursday in Logar to lift the economy of this zone.

In this meeting, a number of businessmen and investors of the southeast zone of the country demanded that the caretaker government address the problems of electricity, transit ports and taxes in Logar, Paktia, Paktika and Khost industrial parks, and implement national projects in these provinces.

They add that they are willing to invest in Afghanistan and continue their investment and business if the caretaker government solves the problems faced by traders and investors.

Mohammad Yaqub, one of the participants in this meeting, says: “The work of the main Logar-Kabul road, which remains unfinished, should be completed while hundreds of transit and passenger cars travel on this highway. Considering the strategic location of Logar, problems in industrial parks, airfield and Aynak copper mine should also be addressed.”

Ziaulhaq Wazirzai, another participant in the meeting that was held in Logar today, wants to establish standard cold storages in this province. He says: “We ask the central government to build a cold storage facility in Logar for the storage of agricultural products and fruits and to complete the unfinished works of the industrial park of this province.”

Meanwhile, Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, Political Deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said in this meeting that now there are better opportunities for trade and investment in Afghanistan than in the past. He asked businessmen and investors to increase their trade and investment in the country.

Mr. Stankzai assured businessmen and investors in the southeast zone that their problems will be solved soon. He adds: “Businessmen and investors who have any problems such as land, electricity and commercial ports in the southeast zone, which some participants mentioned, although some of them are political, but they should be paid attention to. Nazari Sahib, the vice president of trade, is present here, the officials of the security department of the Ministry of Interior are present, and together we will solve the problems of traders and investors.”

The political deputy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also asks other Afghan businessmen and investors who are in Pakistan and other countries to return to the country and invest and do business in Afghanistan.
