Qatar, Indonesia ink Letter of Intent for provision of assistance to Afghanistan

MONITORING (SW) – Qatar and Indonesia have ink a ‘Letter of Intent’ for provision of assistance to Afghanistan, officials have confirmed.

Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani met yesterday with Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi, on the sidelines of Doha Forum.

The meeting discussed aspects of the bilateral cooperation and means of enhancing and developing them, in addition to issues of mutual concern.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs signed a Letter of Intent between the two countries’ foreign ministries regarding the provision of humanitarian and development assistance to the Afghan people.

The two parties hereby declared their joint intent to provide humanitarian and development assistance to the Afghan people, reported Qatar’s the Peninsula.

In accordance with the Letter of Intent, the two parties agreed that the two countries aim at establishing a cooperative mechanism to support the capabilities of the Afghan people, and to empower the role of women in the development of Afghanistan.

The two parties also agreed to explore ways of cooperation in providing scholarships and cooperation in vocational training programmes aimed at building the capabilities of the Afghan people in various fields, as well as working together to facilitate dialogues on the role of Afghan women through organizing conferences and joint events.
