Women public servants asked to wear hijab or quit

KABUL (SW) – All female government employees have been advised by the Ministry of Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil of the Islamic Emirate to either wear the hijab or quit.

Sadiq Akef Mohajer, the spokesman of the Ministry of Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil of the Islamic Emirate, issued a statement in this regard a day earlier.

According to the announcement, the Ministry has sent a letter of recommendation for all civil servants to the Ministries of Justice, Energy and Water, and Rural Rehabilitation and Development in this regard.

According to that recommendation, women in all government offices must cover with hijab otherwise they will be removed from their duties.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil said that all male employees in government offices should also keep beards and offer their prayers in congregation. He also said that the offices of men and women should be separated.

According to the recommendation, minors without beards in government offices are not allowed to get jobs, and women without hijabs are not allowed to enter offices.

Earlier, the Ministry of Enjoining the Good and Forbidding the Evil, by restricting the movement of women, advised them to observe the Islamic hijab and instructed city car drivers not to drive women who do not observe the hijab.
