20 people trapped following heavy snowfall in Kunar

JALALABAD (SW) – At least 20 people got trapped following heavy snowfall in Kunar province, said officials on Monday.

The Bakhtar state news agency reported that 20 people were trapped in the snow in the Dangam district of Kunar province due to heavy snowfall and severe storms. So far, 15 bodies have been found and efforts are underway to evacuate others, said officials.

Confirming the incident, Najibullah, Kunar’s director of information and culture, told Salam Watandar that 20 people had been reported trapped under the snow so far and that rescue teams had gone to the scene to rescue them.

The head of information and culture of Kunar added that so far the bodies of 9 people have been pulled out from under the snow. He emphasized that although the number of injured in this incident is known, more details will be shared after the investigation is completed.

Dangam is the border district of Kunar on the Durand Line, which witnesses heavy snowfalls and storms in the winter.
