Electricity breakdowns irk Kabul residents

KABUL (SW) – Rampant power breakdowns in the capital Kabul has irked the residents as they said to be left with only a few hours of electricity supply during 24 hours.

A number of residents in the capital have complained that with the onset of winter, especially in the last few days, electricity shortages in Kabul have increased. They say they have four to six hours of electricity only in twenty-four hours. According to them, the price of fuel in the markets has also increased and people are forced to use electricity to heat their homes.

The Kabul residents call on the officials of the Islamic Emirate to solve this problem as soon as possible. They expressed concerns that electricity is not distributed fairly in the capital and is only better distributed in areas where high-ranking officials or those with connections in the government are living.

In order to know what Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS)’s plan is to eliminate the electricity shortage in Kabul, we wanted to have the views of the company’s officials, but we did not succeed despite repeated calls.

The power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat, DABS, said last week that Uzbekistan’s electricity transmission to Afghanistan has been cut off due to a technical problem with the Central Asian power system.

The DABS said in a statement that a technical problem arose in the power system of Central Asian countries, resulting in power outages in Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.

According to DABS, the technical teams of the three countries were working to resolve the issue.
