Iconic Dr. Suhaila Siddiq passes away

KABUL (SW) – Afghanistan’s first female general and former health minister Dr. Suhaila Siddiq passed away on Friday at the age of 70.

According to the deputy health minister Waheed Majroh, the iconic female surgeon was under treatment in the Sardar Mohammad Dawood Khan hospital for the past many days. He described the late Dr. Suhaila as ‘brightest face of the medicine fraternity and armed forces’ in Afghanistan.

According to media reports, Dr. Suhaila Siddiq was diagnosed with Alzheimer.

Native of Kandahar’s Maruf district, Dr. Suhaila was born and raised in Kabul. After graduating from Kabul Medical University, she went on to obtain her doctorate from Russia.

She served as health minister between 2001 and 2004.
