The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in partnership with UN Women, has launched an initiative to help women entrepreneurs access financial resources to start and grow their businesses.
In a post on X on Sunday (Sept. 27), the UNDP said that $1.7 million has been invested in the program. Under the program, women entrepreneurs will receive training in financial and digital literacy, business planning, and market access.
According to the UNDP, the program will support 1,500 women entrepreneurs over the next year, while more than 14,000 others will benefit indirectly through stronger businesses, increased household incomes, and greater economic activity.
The UN agency said it is also seeking to mobilize an additional $10 million to expand the initiative and enable another 10,000 women to access financial and business support.
According to figures provided by the UNDP, more than 10,000 women in Afghanistan currently have business licenses, while another 120,000 women are engaged in business activities without licenses.
