UNAMA: Safety of journalists must be a priority

Rabab Fatima, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), has said that the work of journalists is essential for fostering dialogue, peace, and good governance.

In a post on X on Monday (Nov. 2), Fatima said, while marking the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists, that protecting journalists who dedicate their lives to seeking the truth must be a priority for everyone in Afghanistan and around the world.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Information and Culture of the Islamic Emirate said it had coordinated with government institutions to ensure the safety of journalists and protect their rights.

In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly designated November 2 as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. The day highlights the need to protect journalists and end impunity for those responsible for violence against them.
