Proliferation of skin diseases grips Ghazni women

GHAZNI CITY (SW) – In remote regions of Ghazni province, apprehensions surrounding the proliferation of skin diseases among women has got everyone worried.

A number of women have expressed concerns about contracting skin diseases, however the reasons remain unclear.

Shahnaaz, a resident of Khogyani district who sought treatment in Ghazni city, said that both she and her sister have been affected by skin diseases.

She added, “It has been three months since I have been dealing with this issue. I bought medicine from the market, but it did not help. I do not know if this problem is due to the heat or some other factor.”

Another Ghazni resident, Soraya, mentioned that despite consuming numerous medications for her skin disease, the results have been unsatisfactory. “I use many creams, but they damage my skin a lot. It is cracked. Red spots have appeared on my hands and skin. When it gets cold, my hands and face gets these issues,” she explained.

Wahidullah, who brought his daughter to a medical center in Ghazni for skin treatment, also expressed concern about red spots appearing on her skin.

“I found red spots on her skin so I brought her to the doctor for advice to determine what is happening. I hope these spots are not dangerous,” he said.

On the other hand, Abdul Matin Baha, a skin care doctor in Ghazni, pointed out that women and girls in villages are more prone to skin diseases due to difficult work, animal husbandry, agriculture, and self-medication.

“In summer, skin diseases or infectious and fungal diseases are more prevalent among women. In the winter season, there are other diseases, such as dry skin, which eliminates skin moisture. Along with other factors, the use of self-medication in Ghazni is another cause,” he elaborated.

Rasul Khan Nazari, the head of Public Health Directorate in Ghazni, said that efforts are being made to provide more medical facilities for treating skin diseases.

“In the provincial hospital of Ghazni, there were no doctors in the dermatology department, but now, with the establishment of a new division in the hospital, the dermatology section has become active, and the process of hiring doctors is underway. The basic medication and treatment is provided as much as possible,” he said.

Air pollution, psychological pressures, unhealthy nutrition, and the use of low-quality cosmetic products are also contributing factors to skin diseases.
