Poultry trade flourishing in Zabul

QALAT CITY (SW) – Officials at the Zabul Agriculture Directorate say that some 50 chicken farms are operating in this province and fully meet the consumption needs of its residents.

Farmers in Zabul consider the climate of this province to be very suitable and profitable for keeping and raising chickens.

Ataullah Rashid, Head of agriculture Directorate of Zabul, says that the chickens raised in Zabul are also sent to other provinces for sale. “There are currently 50 poultry farms in Zabul province, on average, each farm produces close to 6000 chickens in around a month, these chickens are also consumed here in Zabul, but most of them go to neighboring provinces,” he said.

The increase of chicken farms in Zabul has caused the price of chicken meat in this province to decrease by 100 afghanis per kilo.

Ahmad Gul, a resident of Zabul, who has invested five million afghanis on a poultry farm in this province, says; The income he earns in this way is satisfactory. “It has been a long time since we brought chickens and developed farms. Many people got jobs and the meat and chickens have become very cheap. The business is good and I want to expand to make six to seven more farms. Our products go to Paktia, Kabul, Kunduz, and Badakhshan as well,” he said.

The employees in some poultry farms in Zabul, being happy that they have been provided with work, want increase in the number of poultry farms in this province.

Sardar Mohammad and Qasim, two workers in poultry farms in Zabul, told Salam Watandar it has been three months that they have been working at the chicken farm and they are happy.

In recent years, following the ban on importing chicken meat from other countries, chicken breeding farms have increased in Zabul and other provinces of Afghanistan, where eggs are also produced in addition to providing chicken meat for domestic consumption.
