Logar Provincial Hospital struggles with overcrowding, limited facilities

POL-E ALAM CITY (SW) – Patients at Naib Aminullah Khan Logari Provincial Hospital in Pol-e Alam City, the center of Logar province, voice concerns about overcrowding, with four individuals hospitalized in each single room due to limited space and medical facilities. They highlight economic challenges preventing them from seeking care at private hospitals.

Esmatullah, one of the patients, says: “I have come to the provincial hospital for an operation. We want a standard hospital to be built, to increase the number of beds. Currently, 4-5 people share a single room.”

Tala Mohammad, a resident of Dushanbe village in Pol Alam city, who has brought his five-year-old grandson to the provincial hospital, highlights the lack of space, beds, diagnosis facilities, and shortage of medical equipment as the main problems of this hospital.

He says: “There are many challenges in this hospital and it is also small. I want the capacity of this hospital to be expanded, provide more bedrooms and a better treatment for patients.”

On the other hand, Gulsalam Baraki, a doctor at Naib Aminullah Khan Logari Hospital, says that this hospital was built to the level of a district, but currently, the Logar Public Health Directorate uses it at the level of a province.

He adds that 1,200 patients daily visit this hospital for treatment. He also says that they are facing the problems of lack of medical equipment and space.

Mr. Baraki emphasized that they have reported this issue to the Ministry of Public Health and international institutions, and this issue will be addressed soon. “Some problems have been addressed, but the issue of the building of this hospital has not been addressed yet. There are many patients in this hospital, and only today 1,203 patients have visited.”

The Logar Public Health Directorate also confirms the lack of a standard building for Naib Aminullah Khan Logari Hospital, stating that the doctors are hardly treating patients.

Naib Aminullah Khan Logari Provincial Hospital has 150 beds, and patients from the districts of Mohammad Agha, Barki Barak, Khushi, Charkh, and Kharwar visit this hospital for treatment.
