Juvenile Detention Center sees a number of child offenders freed

KABULL (SW) – To mark the beginning of the new academic year, officials at the Juvenile Detention Center have pardoned a number of child offenders’ term here.

Officials said that on the occasion of Ramadan, some children will be released from this center and others will be given a discount on their imprisonment.

Nazar Mohammad Naseri, the person in charge of this center, says: “We are saddened by their state. We have a group that examines the cases of these children. In the coming days, a delegation will come and the children who will be forgiven for their crimes due to Ramadan will be sent to their homes.”

Naseri added that last year more than 130 children were released from this center during Ramadan.

Mohammad Zaman Rahmani, the director of communication at the courts of the Children’s Juvenile Detention Center, said that they are trying not to deny children access to their cases. He adds: “We tried to ensure that the young people who came here have access to their rights, such as access to their files in the courts.”

Officials emphasized that in addition to school lessons, children in this center learn five professions such as sewing, needlework, mobile phone repairing and other professions, and they are supposed to be taught painting and calligraphy.

On the other hand, a number of children in this center expressed their satisfaction with the provision of educational and job opportunities.

Shabir, a student who was brought to this center a year ago, says: “I am satisfied with the lessons and professions that are taught to us. During this time, I have learned the profession of mobile phone repairing”

Omar, another student, also said: “I go to school; I go to the workshop, I have learned to swim. It’s better here than outside, I’ve learned my lessons.”
