MoMP secures $25.5 million contract for 60,000 tons of Amu Darya Oil

KABUL (SW) – The leadership of the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP) of the de-facto government of Afghanistan has signed a contract for the sale of 60,000 tons of oil extracted from the Amu Darya oil zone.

The contract was signed with a domestic company on Tuesday, January 30.

Officials from the MoMP say that the value of this contract is $25.5 million, involving the sale of 60,000 tons of oil for processing.

They emphasize transparency in the process of this contract and assure the Afghan citizens of the openness in its execution.

Shahabuddin Delawar, Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, mentioned during a meeting to sign the oil sales contract that efforts are ongoing to extract more oil from the Afghanistan’s oil zones.

He adds: “We have announced the 23,000 square kilometer area where there are eleven oil and gas blocks. Many national and international companies have referred to it. In the coming days, its work will start and will be entrusted to a contract. In Herat, Inshallah, oil and gas extraction will start soon, we will be close to self-sufficiency with this extraction.”

It should be mentioned that the Amu Darya oil zone is one of the major oil zones in Afghanistan and most of it is located in Sar-e Pol province.

Currently, the process of extracting at least ten oil wells in Sar-e Pol is underway by a Chinese company, and oil wells are one of the major mines that the Islamic Emirate is focusing on extracting.
