Iran urged to reduce the electricity tariff

KABUL (SW) – Afghanistan has urged Iran to reduce the tariff on the imported electricity from this country, said an official statement.

The Ministry of Water and Energy of the acting government of Afghanistan announced on its “X” account about the meeting of Abdul Latif Mansour, the acting head of this ministry, with Arash Kurdi, the general director of “Tavanir” electricity company of Iran.

In this meeting, the two sides have discussed and exchanged opinions about the development of more cooperation in the electric energy sector between the two countries, it said. The Acting Minister of Water and Energy, in a meeting with the CEO of “Tavanir” company of Iran, said that this country should reduce the electricity tariff, it added.

Abdul Latif Mansour, in a meeting with Arash Kurdi, added that Iran should prevent loadshedding of electricity to Afghanistan. The Ministry of Water and Energy has stated that in this meeting, the CEO of Iran’s “Tavanir” company emphasized on the consolidation of greater cooperation in the electricity sector between both countries.

It should be mentioned that the acting minister of water and energy of the acting government of Afghanistan went to Iran on an official trip on Saturday, along with his accompanying delegation.

Motiullah Abid, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Water and Energy, told Salam Watandar that Mr. Mansour will discuss with the authorities of this country about the extension of the electricity contract between Afghanistan and Iran, determining the appropriate tariff for it and other issues during his trip to Iran.

He added: “Abdul Latif Mansour, Acting Minister of Water and Energy has gone to Iran. During this trip, he will talk with Iranian officials about the extension of the electricity contract, determining the appropriate tariff for electricity and some other issues.”

After the return of the Islamic Emirate to power in Afghanistan, the government has close relations with Iran, but Tehran has not yet recognized the government of the Islamic Emirate in Kabul.
