Deported Afghans want their assets in Pakistan returned to them

KABUL (SW) – A number of Afghan immigrants returning from Pakistan say that after leaving this country, their assets worth hundreds of thousands of rupees remained behind in Pakistan.

Mohammad Hussain, one of the Afghan immigrants who was recently got deported from Pakistan, says that he has more than 11 million rupees worth of assets left behind in Pakistan. He adds: “I was taken from Sialkot, where our home and business with a bakery was. The bakery remained, I had bought flour worth 750,000 rupees, and that remained, my house remained, our house was worth 11.5 million rupees.”

In the same way, Rahmatullah, another returning Afghan immigrant from Pakistan, says: “Our house remained, which we had spent more than 800,000 rupees to fix, and we had bought the land and built it.”

However, the Islamic Emirate announces the establishment of a committee to examine the obstacles to the transfer of capital of citizens deported from Pakistan and how to transfer it.

Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman of the Islamic Emirate, told Salam Watandar that the activities of this committee include inspections of the property of businessmen and all immigrants.

Mr. Mujahid adds: “The committee was activated in order to investigate the matter, how true it was. First, we will examine this position and then we will examine their legal aspects, how to partner with the government of Pakistan and how to proceed.”

On the other hand, the officials of the Afghan embassy in Islamabad also say that in the past 40 years, Afghans in Pakistan had invested heavily in various sectors; But now, this country only allows them to transfer 50,000 rupees.

Sardar Ahmad Shakib, head of the Afghan embassy in Islamabad, says: “They were traders, shopkeepers, agriculturalists or had factories that they had invested in. The government of Pakistan said that they cannot take more than 50,000 rupees with them. We have asked Pakistan many times to clarify what their plans are in this regard, but this issue has remained unknown so far.”

According to the statistics of the Afghan Embassy in Islamabad, since the beginning of the process of deporting Afghan immigrants from Pakistan, more than 300,000 people have been deported from this country and returned to Afghanistan.

The United Nations has also warned many times that the returning Afghan refugees left all their assets in Pakistan and returned to Afghanistan with nothing.
