Teachers in Jawzjan grappling with economic woes

SHEBERGHAN (SW) – At the World Teacher’s Day is approaching, a number of teachers in Jawzjan say that they are dealing with economic problems and that their income is not enough to cover their living expenses and that of their families.

Ahmad Farid, a teacher in Jawzjan, said that with each passing day, his problems has increased and he hardly meets the basic needs of his life. “We ask that special attention be given to teachers because the poorest strata of society are the teachers who teach with many problems and are the source of service to the nation. We must join hands and solve this challenge.”

The teachers in Jawzjan want the caretaker government to pay attention to all the teachers across the country and take care of their problems.

A number of teachers, educators, poets, writers and local officials gathered on Wednesday in the city of Shaberghan, the center of Jawzjan, and organized a literary-cultural program.

The participants in this program say that the teachers in Jawzjan, despite facing economic problems and challenges ahead of them, are still trying to educate students. They want the authorities to support the teachers.

Sanjar Attiz, a participant in this literary-cultural program, said: “These people cannot lead their family’s life in the good way they want. We request the government of the Islamic Emirate to support and encourage Afghan teachers and give them more homes.”

However, the officials of the Department of Information and Culture of Jawzjan, in this program, emphasizing the position and constructive role of teachers, said that the Islamic Emirate pays special attention to them.

Saifuddin Moatasam, head of information and culture of Jawzjan, said: “A teacher is the person who guides his community and nation.”

On the other hand, Mohammad Taher Javad, the head of education department in Jawzjan, confirmed that the teachers in this province are working with low salaries, and said that they are working to address the living conditions of the teachers.

He added: “The teacher is the leader of a society, the right given to the teacher is not based on the salary, but this is a collaboration and the teacher teaches his lesson for the sake of Allah. The money he receives is not a living, it is pocket money. In two years, this system has proven it and appreciates the teachers.”

It should be mentioned that before this, teachers in different provinces have complained about low salaries and increasing economic problems.
