National labor conference in Afghanistan aims to tackle unemployment challenges

KABUL (SW) – Officials at the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Islamic Emirate have announced plans to hold a “National Labor Conference” later this month to address the root causes of unemployment and explore solutions to the challenges faced in Afghanistan.

Mohammad Zahidjan Agha, Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, stated, “To identify challenges and find solutions to reduce unemployment rates in the country, we will hold a National Labor Conference this month and review labor laws to ensure job security in Afghanistan.”

Meanwhile, officials from the International Labor Organization in Afghanistan, also highlighted the lack of job security faced by workers in Afghanistan.

Ramin Behzad, head of the International Labor Organization in Afghanistan, said, “The labor market in Afghanistan still lacks job security, and workers are affected by climate change. We reaffirm our support for workers’ rights in Afghanistan.”

On the other hand, officials at the Afghanistan Workers Union cite the lack of job security and other issues as major challenges for workers in the country. They mention that an average of 400,000 people enter the job market annually, and the de-facto government should promote entrepreneurship among citizens.

Nooruddin Farooqi, a representative of the union, said, “The lack of job security, lack of retirement rights, and increasing working hours for workers without privileges are major challenges for workers in the country. The Islamic Emirate should promote entrepreneurship among citizens.”

As May 1st was International Workers’ Day, the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs held a program to commemorate this day. On this days, most workers’ unions worldwide annually take to the streets to demand their rights and address their issues.
