Youth in Jawzjan monitoring public projects

SHEBERGHAN (SW) – A number of residents and young volunteers in Jawzjan say that they have started the process of monitoring government offices in order to create transparency and improve the quality of public projects.

They added that they will continue this process with transparency and honesty and will work for a prosperous and progressive Afghanistan. These volunteers ask the officials of the government departments to allow them to monitor the work process of the current projects in this province.

Hasibullah Rahmani, representative of volunteer youth, said: “We wanted to have a social survey with the public health department, about the construction of the provincial hospital and the concrete work that is in its courtyard. Is it made with the quality that is intended or not? In these cases, this year’s review of Amanat and Volunteer Youth Network is the same.”

Zainullah Faisal, a resident of Jawzjan, said that the accountability of the government to the nation has created transparency and eliminated corruption. He added: “Accountability makes corruption and problems in the public service sector disappear and makes the government gain more credibility among the people and people support the government better and better.”

Firoz Rahimi, another resident of Jawzjan, said that the accountability of the government to the nation has increased the quality of work and will make the people satisfied.
He added: “When both the people and the government or organizations consider themselves accountable to the people, this increases the quality and guarantee of the work and causes people to be satisfied with the activities of public services and officials.”

On the other hand, Zabihullah Hosseini, head of public health in Jawzjan, said that young volunteers have been allowed to supervise the work of health sector reconstruction projects and they support the beginning of this process. According to him, with the launch of this process, transparency and accountability in government offices will be improved. Mr. Hosseini added: “Our youth should come to monitor our work, visit our work and even criticize the quality of our work. If there is a deficiency, we will correct it. A system that cannot be criticized will not be reformed. Criticism is something that leads a person to health. Government belongs to the youth and they have the right to monitor the functions and programs of the government.”
