Dearth of health services proving deadly for Zabdul residents

QALAT (SW) – Local officials and employees of the health department in Khak Afghan district of Zabul say that due to the lack of facilities and health services, a number of patients with severe illnesses die on the road to Qalat.

They want the central government and aid institutions to solve existing problems and expand health services by establishing new health centers and increasing health organizations.

Maulvi Sadiq, the district governor of Khak Afghan, told Salam Watandar: “There are two or three clinics in the entire district of Khak Afghan, which are in private and in rented places. There is no hospital here to admit patients. People are very needy and people have died because of this. At least a 50-bed hospital should be built here.”

Azimuddin Nizami, one of the health workers of a hospital in Khak Afghan district, said: “The number of patients here is high and overwhelming because the hospital is small and the number of patients is large. We want the government to take care of health centers in remote districts.”

On the other hand, the residents of Khak Afghan district also complain that the existing health services cannot solve their problems. According to them, due to poverty, they cannot treat their patients in private hospitals.

Mohammad Qasim, a resident of Khak Afghan district, said: “We cannot take female patients to Qalat city. When they reach Shahjoy, they either die or give birth to the child on the road.”

Shah Alam, another resident of Khak Afghan district, said: “I brought my patient to the clinic. Medicine was not available and we are very poor people. A hospital should be built for us. Doctors should come and give medicine because these people are very tired and in a very bad situation.”

Meanwhile, the officials of the public health department of Zabul say that they have marked 56 areas, including Khak Afghan district, and have discussed the issue of building hospitals in these areas with the central government in order to solve the problems of the people in the health sector.

Mirwais Afghan, head of public health in Zabul, said: “With the help of the evaluation team, we have identified 56 areas in Zabul, and we have discussed this issue with all donors, the Ministry of Health, and other relevant officials. to solve these problems.”
