FAIZABAD (SW) – A number of students at the Badakhshan University, who have come to this university from the distant districts, say that due to the lack of transparency in the recruitment process in the dormitory, they have been forced to live in rented and substandard rooms in the city.
Najman, a student at Badakhshan University, told Salam Watandar: “Those who are in the dormitories have contacts, but we don’t have any other than God. We are poor. My father is a labourer and sends money, and I have to live in this rented room.”
Aslam, another student at Badakhshan University, said: “Those who have contacts are accepted early and they are absorbed in the dormitory, but those who come from distant provinces are not. We also came from another province. Priority must be given to those who come here from other provinces because the first time they come, they don’t know anyone here.”
Similarly, Hatem Baik, a resident of Zibak district of Badakhshan, who was admitted to the English language and literature school of Badakhshan University in last year’s entrance exam, said that due to not being admitted to the dormitory, he has to put the thought of education out of his head and return to his home in Zibak district. “Due to economic problems, I cannot live in the rented rooms. I have to go home again. I can’t continue my studies. I had come with the hope that there is a dormitory here, that my expenses would be reduced, but unfortunately it did not happen that way. They say that the dormitories have been filled.”
The students who could not be admitted in the dormitory, demand transparency in the recruitment process from Badakhshan University officials.
However, Naqibuddin Ghazizada, the president of Badakhshan University, says that students are introduced to the president of the university by the presidents of their schools to be included in the dormitory. Mr. Ghazizada added that Badakhshan University cannot accommodate all qualified students due to its limited capacity.
It should be said that every year, the students of Badakhshan University face the problem of limited access to the dormitory.
