MAIL invites female staff only for meetings with foreign donors

KABUL (SW) – A number of female employees in the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock told Salaam Watandar that the ministry only invites female employees to meetings with foreigners in order to attract funds.

They add that after the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate in the country, they have not been able to work in person in this ministry. But according to them, in order to show that women continue to work as before, the Ministry of Agriculture invites female employees to the meetings where foreign representatives are present.

Samira, an employee of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock, said: “They tell them in appearance that we have no problem with women to come to work, so that they can get the same support from them. We do not currently have any activities in our offices.”

Leilma, another employee of the ministry, also told Salam Watandar: “Non-governmental organizations that work in the women’s sector, if they plan a meeting in the ministry, they will tell us later. Otherwise, which program is not in the Department of Family Economy of the Ministry of Agriculture.”

Some of these employees still said that despite the fact that the Department of Family Economy of the Ministry of Agriculture is directly related to women  but the Ministry of Agriculture has not allowed women to attend its office.

Sajieh, an employee of the Department of Family Economy of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that though they receive a salary every month, but their activities in the family sector have been stopped.

“All our colleagues have stayed at home, it is not a duty to go, we only go in one month on the first and last dates to sign attendance, they say we are not allowed to sit in the office, and should just sign the attendance and go”.

However, the officials of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock said they are not aware of this issue.

Misbahuddin Mostain, the spokesman of this ministry, rejecting this issue, said: “No. I am not aware of these conversations, these conversations are not true.”

After the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate in Afghanistan, a number of female employees in most ministries have either been fired or have experienced heavy restrictions.
