Banking services gone from bad to worst, says Kabul residents

KABUL (SW) – Kabul residents say banking service have gone from bad to worst in the past few months.

A number of residents of Kabul city are complaining about the process of withdrawing money from banks and the continuation of banking problems after 11 months of the Islamic Emirate’s rule. They say that they wait for days to get their livelihood, but even then they cannot get their money.

Omar, a resident of Kabul, said: “This is the second time I am coming to the bank. I came yesterday, the money ran out, and I came again today.”

Zamri, another resident of the city, told Salam Watandar: “It is a mess, everyone comes and enters the bank by force, people are waiting for their turn under the sun. Today is the second day that I have come to receive my money.”

Abed, another resident of Kabul city, said: “I have been coming for two days, I came yesterday too, but my turn did not come. These soldiers, who call themselves Mujahid, enter the bank without waiting. I came at 7 in the morning and it’s been like this for a year now.”

Residents of Kabul city add that there is little money in banks, and every day money is sent to bank offices after 10 o’clock and it runs out within two or three hours.

However, Abdul Rahman Zirak, the spokesman of currency traders’ union in the Saray Shahzada, admits that afghani banknotes have been reduced and depreciated, but according to him, there is money in the market.

“The shortage is felt, but the money is not lost, there is money available in the market.”

Meanwhile, Najibullah Amiri, the head of the Private Banks Association, says that although the problems have decreased compared to the past, efforts are being made to return the banks’ activities to normal in cooperation with the government.

According to him, with the approach of Eid, the salaries of public and private employees have been remitted, that’s why the number of customers to banks has increased.

We tried to get the views of the officials of the Da Afghanistan Bank in this regard. but to no avail.
