The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Afghanistan says only 29.7 percent of the funding requested to assist people in need in the country has been received.
In a post on X on Thursday (Sept. 17), the agency said $509.3 million of the $1.71 billion requested to provide essential assistance and services in Afghanistan this year has been received.
According to OCHA, the funding shortfall is affecting the delivery of essential assistance, including food, healthcare, education, nutrition, clean water and shelter, to people in Afghanistan.
The Ministry of Economy of the Islamic Emirate has previously said that it is making efforts to reduce the country’s dependence on foreign aid by building infrastructure, implementing development projects, making public investments, creating job opportunities and attracting foreign investment.
