UNHCR distributes 50,000 hot meal packages to returnees

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Afghanistan says it has distributed 50,000 hot meal packages to returnees to the country.

In a post on X on Wednesday (Sept. 16), the agency said the packages have been distributed to returnees at the Torkham border crossing in Nangarhar since June this year.

According to UNHCR, the agency continues to support Afghan returnees by distributing up to 2,000 hot meal packages and cash assistance each day as they return home.

The United Nations has previously emphasized the need to provide humanitarian assistance, including shelter and food, to returnees.
