LASHKARGAH (SW) – At least 20 people are reported dead in Helmand due to the cholera outbreak.
The Bakhtar state news agency has reported that nearly 20 people died during the last day and night as a result of severe diarrhea (cholera) in Helmand province.
Health officials of Helmand told Bakhtar news agency that over 120 people in Baghran district of this province have been infected with cholera, and nearly 20 of them have died.
According to health officials of Helmand, mobile health teams have been sent from the center of this province to Baghran district and the treatment of cholera patients is ongoing.
Cholera has also spread in a number of districts of Zabul province and dozens of people have been infected with this disease.
Cholera is a severe intestinal infection. A patient infected with cholera virus suffers from severe diarrhea and vomiting. The main cause of cholera virus spread is contaminated drinking water.
