My name is Khalilullah Naseri, and I am a first-year Computer Science student. Alongside my studies, I teach at an English language institute, where I strive to make a small contribution to educating and serving my fellow citizens.
Today, I would like to share an experience that has had a great impact on my life, education, and work over the past two years; discovering Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the role it has played in both my personal and professional life.
The first time I heard about AI, I had little understanding of what it actually was. At the time, many people around the world, including in Afghanistan, had already begun using this technology, but I was unfamiliar with it. One day, while talking with a friend who was passionate about technology and scientific advancement, the subject of AI came up. He explained that new tools had been developed that could answer a wide range of questions and make many tasks easier. That conversation sparked the beginning of a new path in my life.
I decided to research it myself to understand what AI is, how it works, and why it has attracted so much attention. The more I read about it, the more I realized that it was far more than I had initially imagined.
At first, I thought AI was useful only for entertainment or simple tasks such as translating text, correcting grammatical errors, or writing a few sentences. However, once I began using it myself, my perspective changed. I realized that AI is not merely a simple tool; it is a significant technology that can support education, research, time management, content creation, graphic design, planning, and even solving complex problems.
The first AI tool I used was ChatGPT. Initially, I used it mainly for teaching English. Whenever I needed help with grammar, writing, or preparing classroom exercises, it provided accurate, simple, and practical responses. That experience increased my confidence in this technology and encouraged me to explore other AI tools as well.
Gradually, an entirely new world opened up to me. I learned how to use AI to design posters, create professional presentation slides, generate creative ideas for content, and even assist with video production and editing. For me, AI was not just software; it became an assistant that was by my side during many moments of my life.
Now, it has been nearly two years since I started using AI, and I can confidently say that it has brought significant changes to my life. The most important change I have noticed is saving time and improving the quality of my learning. Subjects that once took me hours to understand have become much easier to learn through simple and well-structured explanations.
Whenever I find a lesson difficult or face challenges in my work, I ask AI for help and guidance in finding the right path. Sometimes my responsibilities become overwhelming because of my teaching, university studies, and daily commitments, and I feel tired. In those situations, AI helps me organize my daily and weekly schedules more effectively, prioritize my tasks, and manage my time better.
However, I never consider AI as a substitute for studying, thinking, or personal effort. I still read books, conduct research, ask questions, and work hard to learn. To me, AI is a teacher, an advisor, and an assistant—not something that thinks in my place. I believe that without personal effort, no technology can lead anyone to true success.
In my view, the greatest value of AI is that it has made learning easier for everyone. Today, I can access reliable information more quickly, find answers to many of my questions, and make better-informed decisions about my future. This technology has taught me that, when used properly, it can serve as a bridge to growth, learning, and progress.
Finally, I would like to share a message with Afghan youth, especially those who are just beginning to use AI. See AI as a tool to support your learning, not as a substitute for your own thinking and hard work. Use it to learn, conduct research, manage your time, and find better solutions. But never allow laziness or dependence on technology to replace effort, creativity, and perseverance. The future belongs to those who continue to learn and make proper use of technology.
