The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation covering Afghanistan has provided solar dryers to 50 women farmers in Mazar-e-Sharif, the capital of Balkh province.
In a post on X on Sunday (Nov. 8), the agency said the women had also received equipment and training to turn locally grown fruits and vegetables into dried products.
According to the ICRC, the initiative is providing women with opportunities to generate income.
Agriculture is one of Afghanistan’s main economic sectors, with nearly 80 percent of the country’s population relying on it to meet their families’ food and other basic needs.
