Contaminated water affects 150 Ghazni residents

GHAZNI (SW) – More than 150 Ghazni residents have been poisoned by drinking contaminated water, said officials.

Maulvi Mesbah, Ghazni’s director of public health, told Salam Watandar that in the past two days, more than 150 residents of Batur village in the Geero district of the province had been poisoned after drinking contaminated water from a canister.

According to him, most of the poisoned people have severe diarrhea and are being treated in the health centers of the district.

The head of Ghazni Public Health stated that the reason for the poisoning of these people is that the water of the village’s canal was contaminated with the corpses of dead cattle.

He added that nomads in the village had recently dumped their dead cattle into the canal.

Lack of access to safe drinking water is a major challenge in the remote villages of Ghazni.
