Closure of girls schools leaves devastating impacts on students

KABUL (SW) – Prolonged closure of girls schools has left devastating impacts on the students hearts and minds, said experts.

It has been about eight months since the female students above the sixth grade have not gone to school. Although the Ministry of Education of the Islamic Emirate has promised to reopen all the schools, but it is yet to be realised.

A number of psychologists now say that female students in the sixth grade experience depression and frustration as their schools remain closed. They consider the psychological effects on these girls destructive and say that this action of the Islamic Emirate will also affect the future generations of the country.

Zahra Mirzaei, a psychologist, said that students see their future in school and university, and if there is no school and university, they become frustrated with the future.

Some other psychologists, while expressing concern about the devastating effects of this decision on the next generation of the country, said that closing schools to girls under the pretext of observing Islamic law will make girls also pessimistic about religion.

Abdul Husseini, another psychologist, believes that when boys go to school, girls feel gender discrimination against themselves and their peace of mind about their future will be taken away.

On the other hand, female students in the sixth grade complain of extreme stress due to staying at home and demand the Islamic Emirate to reopen their schools as soon as possible.

Last week, a number of religious scholars in a press conference called the decision of the Islamic Emirate to close girls’ schools as illegal and irrational. They stressed that this decision will cause great damage to the image of Islam.
