Zabuli child loses battle of life in a well

KABUL (SW) – Days-long operation has failed to rescue a child stranded in a well in Zabul province, officials confirmed on Friday.

The Bakhtar state news agency reported that the operation forces and the medical team in Zabul were only able to pull out the body of a six-year-old child who had fallen into a well and had died of a respiratory problem.

Sharafat Viar, head of information and culture in Zabul, said the child had died inside the well.

Anas Haqqani, a senior member of the Islamic Emirate, also confirmed the news of the child’s death on Twitter. Haqqani had traveled to Zabul two days ago with Mullah Mohammad Yaqub, acting head of the Ministry of Defense, and a number of other officials of the Islamic Emirate.

The child named Haider fell into a well more than 30 meters deep on Tuesday in a remote area of Qalat, the capital of Zabul province.

The rescue teams dug a tunnel to rescue the child and were making progress, but the presence of rocks in the path had slowed down the operation.

In a similar incident in Helmand province, a child fell into a well and died after coming out of the well.
