Plan chalked for the reopening of girls’ schools

KABUL (SW) – Officials at the Ministry of Education of the Islamic Emirate have announced that the plan to reopen girls’ schools has been finalized, and would be dispatched to the cabinet of ministers on Monday.

Aziz Ahmad Aryan, a spokesman for the Ministry of Education, told Salam Watandar that the plan to reopen girls’ schools would be shared with the cabinet of ministers on Monday for approval, and that if the plan was approved, female students from the sixth grade and above could return to their schools.

The spokesman for the Ministry of Education added that the separation of girls’ and boys’ schools, the observance of the Islamic hijab by students, and the teaching at girls’ schools by female teachers were included in the plan.

Although the Ministry of Education is emphasizing on the opening of girls’ schools next month, many female students are still concerned about the decision of the cabinet of the Islamic Emirate.

They say they have been living in misery since they were barred from going to school and are worried about their future. Female students are asking the Islamic Emirate to allow them to study like boys at the beginning of the new academic year next month.

With the advent of the Islamic Emirate, female students above the sixth grade are not allowed to go to school.

However, following the persistent calls by many international organizations, the Islamic Emirate officials have insisted on creating a plan in this regard.
