Kabul resident says aid is not distributed fairly

KABUL (SW) – A number of Kabul residents believe the aid distribution by the international community with the supervision of the Islamic Emirate officials is not fair or transparent.

They criticized the process of distributing aid by the international community, saying that it does not reach those in need. According to them, the representatives of the Islamic Emirate and the local community leaders are distributing the aid by the international community unfairly.

Kabul residents lined up in front of the Afghan Red Crescent Society office in Kabul to receive aid, said that they waited in line all day, but they could not get help. They emphasized that the aid was distributed via intermediaries and people affiliated with the Islamic Emirate.

“We see here, vehicles belonging to the Islamic Emirate come and take away the aid,” a resident of the capital told Salam Watandar.

But, Abdullah Hammad, head of the Afghan Red Crescent Society in Kabul, rejected the criticisms and accusations by Kabul residents and assured citizens that the process of distributing aid is transparent and free of corruption.

According to him, those who gather in front of the offices may have received help once and therefore will not be helped again. Mr. Hamad added that the claim of receiving help from individuals and forces of the Islamic Emirate is baseless.

The head of the Afghan Red Crescent Society in Kabul also said that in some cases, the local community representatives have been arrested on corruption charges. He added that there are specific teams to help those in need, which is done with the help of local elders.

Meanwhile, a number of residents of Sheikh Zahid town in the Qasba area of Kabul are also complaining, saying that although there are many poor people in the area, but not getting the aid.

The UN said in a recent report that by 2022 the number of people in need of assistance has increased to 24 million.
