Uzbekistan cuts power supply to Afghanistan

KABUL (SW) – The power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) has announced that Uzbekistan has reduced its electricity supply to Afghanistan by 60%.

The DABS said in a statement today that Uzbekistan, without coordination with the Afghanistan, has reduced electricity imports from that country by 60 percent.

The company, citing Uzbek officials, blamed the decline on a technical problem at the Tilimarjan sub station. The statement said the problem would be resolved in the next two to three days.

It should be noted that due to the reduction of electricity supply by Uzbekistan, power supply in 16 provinces has suffered blackout. Although, the main reason for Uzbekistan’s power outage is not yet clear, the Islamic Emirat’s Minister of Defense, Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid, demanded Uzbekistan yesterday to return Afghanistan’s military air crafts that were taken there by the air force men of the previous government last year.
