Speaker Rehmani charges VP Slaeh of ‘Facebook heroism’

KABUL (SW) – Members of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Monday criticized first vice president Amrullah Saleh over a viral audio in which he charged a member of the house for collaborating with the Taliban.

During Monday’s session, some members of the house said that if the first vice president has credible documents about MP Amir Shah Naibzada’s alleged ties to the Taliban and his bid to surrender Badghes province to the Taliban, he should hand them over to the judiciary so that it can monitor the matter and make a legal decision.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the house, Rehman Rahmani, called the first vice president’s actions as illegal and said that Saleh should not make his decisions based on emotions and that what he said to a member of the house was unacceptable.

“I call on the President (Mohammad Ashraf Ghani) and politicians from this platform of the house that at such a fundamental and historic moment, Saleh is not busy building the mindset of the common people (against Taliban) and has been engaged in conspiratorial activities. Let’s work for the unity of the people, not for ‘heroism’ through Facebook”, said Rehmani.

He also instructed the a house committee to investigate the matter and call for ending security forces’ siege of his residence.

It is worth mentioning that a few days ago, in an audio clip related to first vice president Amrullah Saleh, which was published on social media, Naibzada, a representative of Badghis people, has been accused of treason and threatened to ‘be sent to hell’.

In the audio clip, the vice president accused Naibzada of working for the Taliban and encouraging security forces to leave districts and areas to the Taliban.

Naibzada has since been under house arrest. In a video clip released yesterday, he called the first vice president’s allegations baseless.
