KABUL (SW) – First Vice President Amrullah Saleh has reiterated the resolve to punish perpetrators behind the shooting down of a military chopper in the Behsud district of Maidan Wardak province.

In a social media post, Saleh said that no military operation was planned against anyone in Behsud district on the night the helicopter was targeted by militia commander Alipur. He added that it is wrong to give ethnic color to this issue.

“No secret or public order has ever been given to the brave defense and security forces of the country against any ethnic group”, he said, adding the perpetrator of this crime must be punished for their actions.

Earlier, Fawad Aman, deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, said on Saturday the army helicopter was shot down by individuals affiliated with Alipur in Behsud district of Maidan Wardak province killing nine soldiers and pilots. “Investigations by the Ministry of Defense, as well as documents obtained, show that the air force helicopter was targeted by fighters affiliated with Alipur in Behsud district,” the deputy defense ministry spokesman wrote on Twitter.

Aman stressed that the Ministry of Defense would at all costs avenge the blood of those killed and punish its perpetrators.
