US reiterates support for the Afghan forces

KABUL (SW) – The US has reiterated commitment to continue support for the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces after withdrawal of the American troops.

The National Security Council said in a statement Hamdullah Mohib, National Securiyt Adviser spoke over phone with his US counterpart Jake Sullivan last evening. It said the two sides affirmed their commitment to continuing security and counterterrorism cooperation.

 



 

“NSA Sullivan reiterated American support for ANDSF, development assistance, and peace in Afghanistan”, it said, adding the US support for development, peace, and support for Afghanistan’s security and defense forces would continue.

On the other hand, the White House said in a statement that in this telephone conversation, the National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan emphasized that the United States will stand by the government and people of Afghanistan even after the withdrawal of foreign troops.

According to a White House, Sullivan stressed the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation, pledged close consultation, and explained about the US assistance programs for the security and defense forces and the Afghan people.

 



 

As of May 24, 2021, according to the US Central Command, the Defense Department has retrograded the equivalent of approximately 160 C-17 loads of material out of Afghanistan and has turned over more than 10,000 pieces of equipment to the Defense Logistics Agency for disposition.
