TALUQAN (SW) – At least nine security forces got killed in attacks orchestrated by Taliban infiltrators in Takhar, Kunduz, Badghes and Ghor provinces in past two days.

Such attacks have resurged recently. Earlier this week, a Taliban infiltrator killed the deputy head of Kunduz’s fifth security district along with two policemen before taking away their arms and equipment.

Following this incident, another Taliban mole killed three security forces at night in a checkpoint in Dasht-e-Qala district of Takhar province and took the checkpoint equipment with him. Local officials in Takhar said two soldiers were killed in the incident. But credible security sources in Takhar told Salam Watandar that three security forces were killed in the attack.

Mahmoud Heydari, a military and intelligence affairs expert, said weak vetting and surveillance mechanisms means the insurgents can easily infiltrate the ranks of the security forces.

Ghor and Badghes provinces faced similar incident recently.

Meanwhile, Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Arian has said in this regard that attacks by Taliban infiltrators have reduced as a result of reforms and transparency in recruitment. According to him, some people who have infiltrated the police ranks in the past are committing crimes. Arian added that the government is trying to identify these people and separate them from the ranks of the police.
