Saadati says peace accord to be signed in Turkey

KABUL (SW) – The deputy head of the High Council for National Reconciliation has said a concluding peace accord would be signed at the forthcoming Istanbul conference on Afghanistan.

Assadullah Saadati told a gathering in Kabul the ‘Document of Peace Agreement’ would encompass all issues related to peace in Afghanistan.

Speaking on the occasion, Nahid Farid, a member of the Wolesi Jirga, said high hopes are associated with the forthcoming conference in Istanbul. She added many grim challenges remained unresolved in the path to peace.

The Istanbul conference has been scheduled to take place in April, but no exact dates are announced. Top Afghan officials, Taliban representatives and dignitaries from many countries are likely to attend.
