Afghan government to participate in Moscow, Istanbul conferences

KABUL (SW) – National Security Adviser, Hamdullah Mohib said on Saturday government would dispatch official delegations for peace conferences in Turkey and Russia.

He told a press conference here that a decision has been made in this regard. Regarding composition of the Afghan delegation, he said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the High Council of National Reconciliation are working on it.

Mohib said if the Taliban decided to dispatch their team of negotiators from Doha to the proposed conferences in Moscow and Istanbul, the Afghan government would reciprocate it with their delegates engaged in negotiation with the insurgents in the Qatari capital.

The Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told reporters on Friday that a multi-nation meeting on the Afghan peace process will take place on March 18 at the level of the special envoys.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Friday told journalists in Doha the UN-led meeting on Afghan peace has been planned to be held in Istanbul in April.
