Massive fire breaks out at Islam Qala

HERAT CITY (SW) – Dozens of tankers carrying petroleum products caught fire at Islam Qala customs in Herat province on Saturday.

Herat Governor Sayed Abdul Wahid Qatali said that a large fire broke out at the customs Saturday afternoon. According to the governor of Herat, Iran has been asked for help in controlling the fire and efforts are underway. He said the cause of fire and subsequent damage caused by it was not immediately known.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai, spokesman for the Herat Public Health Department, has said that 10 injured people have been evacuated from the site of fire. According to Sherzai, there is a possibility of an increase in casualties and injuries in this incident.

According to locals, a number of gas tanker drivers were burned in the fire.
