Suicide bombing kills 14 security forces in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (SW) – At least 14 security forces got killed in a suicide car bombing in Sherzad district of Nangarhar province on Saturday.

A well-placed security source told Salam Watandar at least 14 security forces got killed in this attack.

The governor’s office in Nangarhar confirmed via a statement the attack took place in the Gandumak area of the province.

Deputy chairman of the provincial council, Ajmal Umar, said a Humvee packed with explosives was rammed into the security check post. He added another would-be suicide truck bombing was prevented in the area by the security forces.

The Taliban took responsibility for the bombing. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed said a bastion of government forces was targeted in Sherzad that was involved in security operation in the province. He vowed up to 50 security forces were killed and wounded in this attack.

Sherzad is one of the restive districts of Nangarhar.
