The United Nations has urged people to take action to promote harmony with nature and the Earth on International Mother Earth Day.
The UN, in a post on X on Wednesday (April 22), stated that “Earth is our one and only home” and emphasized that protecting the planet is a shared responsibility wherever people live.
The organization also emphasized that restoring damaged ecosystems is essential to ending poverty, combating climate change, and preventing mass extinction.
It urged practical steps such as reducing food waste, saving energy, and buying local products, calling on everyone to act now and make every day Earth Day.
The United Nations General Assembly designated April 22 as International Mother Earth Day through a resolution adopted in 2009. Initially, the day was established on April 22, 1970, when the first major environmental movement took place.
